The ancient Russian city of Blagoveshchensk was founded in 1856. At first it was the Ust-Zey military forpost, and in 1858 the expanded post received the status of the city and was renamed Blagoveshchensk in honor of the Annunciation church built in the city. A little later the city became the administrative center of the Amur region.
The city is located on the bank of the Amur River, in the place where the Zeya River flows into the Amur River. And right on the other bank, China is beginning. Amur is a natural border between Russia and China.
The population of the city according to 2018 was 225 thousand people, but there is a tendency to reduction of the population due to deterioration in living conditions and its appreciation.
The industry of the city is quite developed, the largest enterprises are the Amur Metalworker, it produces shaft equipment, and the Shipyard. Industrial waste of these, as well as other enterprises of the city fall into the air and the Amur damaging the ecology of the city and its environs.
The climate of Blagoveshchensk is sharply continental, the summer is hot and humid, and the winter is cold, with a low amount of precipitation.
Despite the bad state of the environment, in the vicinity of the city you can still meet the most beautiful wild orchids - Venus shoe. In open spaces, peonies and irises bloom, and lilies grow in water. Lilies in the Amur region are four species, all of them are listed in the Red Book. A special flower of the region is the relic lotus of Komarov. His white-pink flowers with a purple tint are unusually beautiful!
A multicolored decorative flowers, among which chlorophytum, salvia, tagetes, petunia, cineraria decorate the flower beds of Blagoveshchensk and please its citizens.
