Taganrog, the second largest city in the Rostov region, is located on the shore of the ​​Azov Sea-Taganrog Bay. Its name was given to the city in honor of Cape Taganrog (translated from Turkic "Mayachny Cape"). Administratively city is a part of the Rostov region. Thanks to a successful geographical location - 70 kilometers to the capital of Rostov-on-Don region and approximately 50 kilometers to the border with Ukraine, the city from a small fishing settlement turned into a large transport hub and transit point. Industry in the city is also very developed.
Earlier, fish were caught in large volumes, now due to the deteriorated ecology and uncontrolled fishing in the Azov Sea, the quantity of fish has significantly decreased, and its extraction is now mainly carried out in the Black Sea.
The population of the city is 254 thousand and it is slightly increasing. The population growth is offset by the outflow of residents from the neighboring city of Rostov, as it is easier to find a high-paying job there. Among the large industrial enterprises can be mentioned Taganrog Metallurgical Plant, Taganrog Tannery, LLC Mekhano-Foundry. These enterprises employ about 40% of the population, while many prefer to work in neighboring Rostov because of higher salaries. These, as well as many other enterprises, being the main taxpayers of the city, at the same time decently pollute the environment, the sewage of enterprises fall into the sea, causing even greater damage to the environment. However, compared with the cities with over a million people like Ekaterinburg, Moscow, etc., the ecological situation is not so bad. Therefore, tourists who wish to relax on the sea still come to Taganrog.
The climate of the city is temperate continental, with mostly cold winter and hot summer, the sea exerts its influence on the climate, softening the summer heat. Such a climate is favorable for a variety of vegetation. Most part of Taganrog is located in the steppe zone and most of the territory is occupied by agricultural land, but there are corners of wild fauna. Typical representatives of which are drought-resistant plants. Among them, it is possible to note meadow grass, kelerium and the feather-grass that is listed in the Red Book. In the spring, the surrounding steppes of Taganrog are covered with a red carp of poppies, and then there is a sage (also called cornflower). Here and there, you can still meet the Red Book steppe peony with a large red flower. And if you are lucky enough to stumble upon the flowering hyacinth of Pallas - you will remember this for a long time. A large section of the steppe, completely covered with delicate blue flowers, it is a truly fascinating sight! In the city, decorative flowers prevail. On the embankment of Taganrog numerous flowerbeds abound with bushes of a tea rose, and near the kindergartens, there is the kingdom of tulips. In the Gorky Park, numerous medicinal plants were planted in the "Aptekarsky garden" project, after which the townspeople take care. Petunias, asters, and violets decorate the flowerbeds on the local area of ​​the city. These elegant flowerbeds and parks show that the inhabitants of Taganrog are very fond of their quiet city and try to make it even more beautiful!
