In 1594 on the bank of the river Ob was founded the ancient Russian city of Surgut. From a small settlement of 280 people, Surgut soon turned into a major trading city, and a little later in Surgut was built a pier that turned the city into a major river port. A bit later, a railway was built, which contributed to the formation of the city as one of the largest transport hubs in Russia. And after the discovery of rich oil and natural gas deposits in Surgut, the city began to grow rapidly, and it turned into a major industrial city in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous county. Now its population is about 303 thousand people.
Surgut is located in the Far North, so the climate of the city is quite severe. Dry, but not particularly warm summer is replaced by a cold winter. Surrounded by numerous forest tracts, despite the disastrous impact of oil producing enterprises, the flora of the city and its environs are quite numerous. Forests are mostly deciduous. Coniferous species of cedar trees predominate, if. But there is also larch. The natural world of Ugra is rich in berries, cranberries, blueberries, cloudberries, cowberries, and currants. It blossoms not for long, but its numerous white flowers manage to please connoisseurs of wild nature. Inside the city, the unpretentious irises blossom well and bloom, in early summer. In Surgut, they are called Siberian orchids. Excellent took root in the city wild lilies with large orange or red flowers. The frost-resistant varieties of hydrangeas and roses also took root. Recently in Surgut on numerous flower beds of the city were planted about 320 thousand flowers. Lion's eye decorated the territory near the theater "Petrushka", the marigolds landed on the Memorial of Glory and the Square of the Soviets.
