Santa Cruz is the first class capital city of the Laguna province with over 117,000 people by 2015. It is at the centermost of Laguna with 26 barangays and trade and commerce where the economy revolves around.
Natural attractions are nowhere to be found in the city because there are no more spaces to develop. There are monuments and architecture, however, like the Emilio Jacinto Shrine at the Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park as his final resting place. The Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church, built in the early 17th century, was renovated and rebuilt after being almost destroyed in a fire in 1945. It still stands today with its original façade. If you have a taste for local delicacies, you can sink your teeth into ‘kesong puti’ or white cheese. It is from carabao’s milk. Other regions are also making their own ‘kesong puti’. It’s not just white cheese that they’re proud of. Santiago has many local delicacies like rice cakes, coconut pie, and more. The peacock flower, or the Caesalpinia pulcherrima, grows in the wolds of Santa Cruz. It is the national flower of Barbados and has three uses. Peacock flower seeds are toxic, but there are seeds from other species that are safe to eat. The seeds are also used by the slaves to induce abortion so that they will not give birth to children to become slaves like they are. They are also widely used as an ornamental plant from indoors to gardens.
