Austria is known for the tiny white flower, Edelweiss, but that is not the only flower Austrians must be proud of. In the area surrounding the capital city of Vienna, festivals are common in the warm summer months. In August, the annual garden show is held in either Tulln or Grafenegg. It is the yellow daffodil that truly gets Austrians excited. The daffodil or "poet's daffodil" is the star at Austria's largest floral festival. Held in Salzkammergut each May, the festival can draw over 30,000 visitors to see who is crowned Daffodil Queen. Flowers are also a part of the parade held every year. Bouquets are often given in celebration of Austria's Independence, which finally occurred in 1955.
