For flower lovers, the Izumi Botanical Garden in Sendai offers an oasis of greenery in the big city, with wooded walks and ponds full of water lilies. The park is also a pleasant place to do some wildflower spotting in the early spring. Of course, Sendai’s location is perfect for exploring the wider area too, and you can easily access all the attractions that Tokyo and its surrounds has to offer. Sendai is not far from Sumida and its’ splendid Mukojima Hyakkaen Flower Gardens. This park offers a lovely spot at which to view the petals falling from the cherry trees during the cherry blossom festival. The surrounding area is packed with attractions for flower lovers so arm yourself with your camera to make sure you don’t miss any nice flowers as you explore. Sendai is also close to the district of Meguro. This area is definitely worth exploring as there is a pleasant riverbank along which you can stroll in the spring as the flowers fall from the cherry trees. There is also the interesting Meguro Sky Garden here with a selection of flowers, shrubs and plants. Here you can look at the interesting building and then have a stroll in the gardens. Once you have finished, head over to the Sihinagawa area where you will find locals and visitors alike wandering and sitting around the many flower parks and gardens, having a picnic and enjoying each others’ company amongst a background of the cherry blossom flowers
Sendai is jam packed with things to do! Situated only one and a half hours from Tokyo on the fast train, Sendai offers the visitor history, culture and modernity. The stunning Zuihōden Mausoleum is a great place to spend a few hours and snap some photographs of the gorgeous surroundings, and a hike up the AER building is well worth it for the views alone.
