Modern Volzhskiy is an industrial city in Volgograd region that was founded on the site of Bezrodnoye, the tiny village, 20 kilometers northeast of the administrative center of the region. Without going into detail, Volzhskiy grew around the Volga hydroelectric power station. Its population was 314 200 in 2010.
To be honest, there is too little sightseeing worth visiting Volzhskiy. Nevertheless, not far from the municipal area, you may find a lake which Russians call the eighth wonder of the World. It is famous for a multitude of exuberant lotus plants. The thriving of the blossoming lotus flowers is very rare, extremely exotic, in the territory of the Russian Federation. And many people wonder why they started growing under the surface of such a cold lake. Even ecologists cannot make it clear. It is the subject of the scientific dispute. Some say that it is a relict plant. Others continue to insist on the role of migrant birds bringing various seeds. But facts remain facts.
Lotus is a symbol of purity, grace, fertility, serenity, divinity, beauty. In Russia, Lotus reaches up to 50 cm above water. The flowers’ petals in murky waters of the lake are predominantly found in pink color. Every year lotus fans patiently wait for the time when they begin on their first blossoming. They are willing to spend their time so as to witness the rare phenomenon and take photos. The view of the sea of the pink beauty with green leaves is really mind-bending. It definitely blows anyone’s mind. The flowers open with the dawning light and close at twilight.
