While the capital of Columbia may be Bogotá, it is the city of Medellin that hosts the most important social event of the year, The Festival of Flowers. One of the most eagerly awaited flower festivals, the highlight for many festival growers, is the parade of silletas. These small wooden, chair-like frames were originally used to carry infants and small children, but now local farmers and artisans fill the silletas with hundreds of colorful native blooms.
