Cypripedium calceolus is recorded in Russia’s Red Book. The exotic looking flowers have purple petals which frame a beautiful bright yellow pouch. Each stem usually supports fewer than 2 flowers. Hairy oval leaves clasp the stem. The orchid takes up to 10 years of vegetation before it produces flowers.
