Ichihara is to be found in the western part of Japan’s Boso Peninsula on the east coast of Tokyo bay. Located in the Chiba Prefecture where there are some historic sights and and scenic views to Mount Fuji on a clear day. Head to Mount Nokogiriyama to see the Soto Zen Buddhist Temple. Be amazed by the sight of the 31m high Buddha which has been in situ for over 300 years. Reaching the top of the mountain you’ll be rewarded by stunning views of the Boso Peninsula and Mount Fuji. Take the Boso flower line which is stunning from January to April with its displays of yellow rape seed flowers and red poppies are in full bloom. Take the short train journey into the centre of Tokyo to visit some of the beautiful parks filled with cherry blossom trees. Try to catch one of the cherry blossom festivals or Sakura Matsuri.
Ueno festival in Onshi park is held annually in the spring. It is particularly impressive at night when the blossoms appear to glow as they are lit up. Bokutei is another popular festival with a 1km line of cherry blossom trees which again are illuminated when darkness falls. Make sure you have your camera to hand when you go to the Chiyoda festival. View the cherry blossoms from the vantage point of a boat and capture the colours of these delicate blooms.
