INFOINFOINFOINFO

The harbour city of Newcastle is a great place for whale watching and to relax in the ocean waters at Bogey Hole. The climate makes the area ideal for vineyards and wineries, along with growing several varieties of native plants and flowers. While Stockton Beach has great white sharks and camels Werakata National Park is the perfect place for birdwatching. The park is also home to several native plants and flowers, and the meadows burst into color in the springtime. Scabiosa and jacarandas can be found blooming, along with cessnock trees. The light purple blossoms on the large trees are easy to see and contrast beautifully with the browns and greens of the other plants. Small flying duck orchids bloom on the forest floor, along with the duck of Elvina. Tall greenhoods also grow in the park and bloom during the warmer months. Other plants and flowers to look for in Newcastle include alliums and agapanthus, along with chrysanthemums and dahlias. Residents also enjoy growing their own orchids in their gardens, and roses are another plant many local gardeners carefully tend. While the flowers in the forest cannot be brought home, many of them can be found for sale in local shops and markets.
