Founded in 1961 as the new capital of Brazil, Brasilia is both the federal capital and the capital of the Federal District. It is located in the scenic Central-West region of Brazil, along the Brazilian Highlands. While it is not the tourist mecca of Rio or Sao Paulo, there is still plenty to see and do including a wide variety of native plants and flowers. Rivaling New York City’s famed Central Park, Brasilia’s City Park has something for everyone. Jogging trails, sporting greens and even an artificial wave pool are located throughout the large park, including several flowering plants. The Brasilia Botanical Gardens are also located nearby and encompasses 20 square miles. With the city being located in the warm and humid climate of the cerrado, visitors to the park and gardens can expect to see over 800 different species of trees. Some of the flowering plants visitors can expect to see include the red and yellow jacobinia and delicately pretty alstroemeria. Small fluffy gomphrena and several different types of native orchids can also be found growing underneath the trees, while summer in Brasilia brings the fragrant scent of the lilies. This modern city has a thriving night life, and one of the local favorites is Boteco. Here visitors can samba the night away while sipping on the regional beers. Since Brasilia was a planned city, every street and public square were precisely placed. One of the most famous is Three Powers Square, where not only will visitors find the Presidential Palace, the Supreme Court and towering high above, the Brazilian National Congress. Even the city’s shrine was precisely placed, and now gives residents and visitors the best place to see the sunset. Another planned church is what is considered the bluest church in the world. Dom Bosco Sanctuary was finished in 1970, and its huge gothic arches are filled with twelve tons of beautiful blue glass. Located on the outskirts of the modern city, is where the central market can be found. The open aired market features hundreds of stalls selling everything from food and Brazilian artwork to clothing and Northern Brazilian flowers. For an authentic taste of this region’s cuisine, the Mangai is the place to go. This large buffet style restaurant features over 80 different native dishes and overlooks the manmade lake, Paranoa. We will be happy to deliver gorgeous floral bouquets to any address in the city of Brasilia.
