Wādī as Sīr, located approximately 7 miles or twelve kilometers outside of Jordan’s capital city of Amman, has a name which means “The Valley of the Orchards,” roughly translated. The city itself is known for its cultural district of Sweifieh, with an important fashion district and a notable shopping mall. On the outskirts of the city, a variety of old buildings and castles bring visitors to the area, such as the Qasr al-Abd castle, as well as the Iraq al-Amir caves. On the outskirts, one can also find a wide variety of flowers that grow in drier atmospheres, such as oleander, anemones, eye-of-sun tulips, adenium (desert rose), and Jordan’s national flower, the black iris.
