This historic Bavarian city has something to offer everyone from culture and medieval architecture to museums and stunning gardens. One garden that is on everyone’s “must see” list can be found at the Nuernberg zoo. Home to an estimated 300 species of animals, it also boasts a woodland garden and several award worthy flower beds. Voted one of the most beautiful zoological garden in Europe, there always seems to be something blooming throughout the year. Each animal habitat is designed to mimic their natural environment which means that there is a wide variety of plants and flowers from around the world in the zoo. Bromeliads, heliconias, large green elephant ears and even waxy anthuriums can be found growing around the rainforest section, along with a few orchids on the tree branches. Marigolds, daisies, begonias and carnations are used to create stunning flower beds along the paths, and in the springtime the zoo and city are filled with colorful tulips. Roses are another favorite, especially in private gardens and many of these same varieties of flowers can also be found blooming in front of the famous Nuremberg Castle.
