Biel, also known by its’ French name Bienne, is a picture perfect waterfront town in Switzerland. The hillside is home to the beautiful old town with its traditional architecture, whilst the newer part of town is to be found closer to the lakeside. There is plenty of stunning Gothic-era architecture to behold here, and visitors will delight in the co-existence of both the German and French languages which seem to work together in harmony. Visitors and locals alike adore the area surrounding Biel for its plethora of outdoor activities including hiking and lake activities. For the flower lover there are plenty of floral sights to behold in Biel. Biel is on the doorstep of the Chasseral Regional Park, a huge expanse of national park and an outdoor lovers’ dream. The  Parc Régional Chasseral as it is known in French is a national protectorate as there are many rare types of plants within the boundaries. A hike up here in the spring will reward you with yellow and white flowers as far as the eye can see. If you wish to see more organised floral arrangements, the Bern Botanical Gardens are a mere 30 minutes away by car and offer plenty for flower lovers young and old. Of course, there are plenty of alpine plants on display here, as can best be expected. But there is also an excellent collection of exotic and non-native species as well. There are over 1500 species of Alpine plants and shrubs on display. There are also greenhouses housing exotic ferns and other heat loving shrubs, and a floral themed café at which you can sit back and relax after exploring.
