With just over five hundred thousand people living within its’ boundaries, Ryazan is an important cultural hub on the banks of the River Oka. With substantial history in the area, it makes a great place to visit for those who like to check out museums, history, areas of cultural significance and lots of monasteries and churches. The local Kremlin is the first stop on many visitor lists, and enjoys views over the surrounding areas from its vantage point up on the hill. Others like to stroll in the Cathedral Park which features monuments and lovely tree-lined alleys, as well as a tree made of padlocks! The city is also jam packed with interesting museums and galleries, and visitors and locals alike can spend several days exploring these cultural sights. The Historical Museum is one of Russia’s longest established museums, but there is also the State Museum and several military related exhibitions across the city. For a spot of greenery and perhaps a nice stroll, the area around the concert hall features spectacular displays of tulips in the spring and summer months. Upper City Garden is also a delightful place to explore when in Ryazan. The park includes a number of interesting statues and monuments, but its best feature are the stunning landscaped flowerbeds that are dotted throughout the park. There are plenty of trees under which to seek shade in Upper City Garden, and on top of this there are play areas and sandpits for children to enjoy.
