As a borough in the country’s capital Bexley has something for everyone. It is close enough to all of the attractions in London while still being able to retain a more relaxed atmosphere. Along with the Royal Botanical Gardens in the capital one can also find plenty of native plants and flowers growing in Bexley. Lavender is a favorite and the fragrant flowers are often dried and used in scented sachets. Daylilies of all colors add a bright touch of color to public and private gardens, and rose bushes are often planted in front of public buildings. Azaleas can be seen blooming in the spring and early summer, along with daisies, coneflowers and bachelor buttons. Many residents also enjoy tending foxglove, hollyhocks and delphinium. Trinomas and larkspur are also favorites, along with blue lobelia. Small heather bushes are other common sights, especially in some of the borough’s public green spaces. If you want to see exotic orchids and slightly “furry” silver queen proteas one can venture into the capital to the Royal Botanical Gardens. These gardens are also home to the Titan arum a rare orchid that releases a foul odor when it blooms.
