Barranquilla, culturally, is one of the most important cities in all of Colombia: it is the home of the Carnival of Barranquilla, an important folkloric tradition. The Carnival begins on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday, and the festival hosts a variety of parades, musical events, and general merrymaking. The Carnival is such a popular event that people come from all over the world to participate in it, and for the 4 days of the event, the entire city’s activity comes to a halt while people enjoy themselves and celebrate the tradition of the Barranquilla Carnival. With a warm and lovely tropical savanna climate, Barranquilla is hot and humid almost year-round, and as a result is home to a diverse assortment of flora and fauna. The fauna includes a wide variety of reptiles, birds, insects, and fish, and the flora includes different kinds of trees, such as the beautiful flame tree, a flowering tree whose flowers, once fully grown, take on vivid shades of scarlet and orange, flame-like colors. Barranquilla’s symbolic flower is the Cayena, known popularly as the Chinese hibiscus. Remember the lively Barranquilla carnival through a gorgeous floral display containing flowers from Columbia, or send flowers directly to Barranquilla! We can send them to almost any address in the city.
