Roma or Rome is the capital of Italy and is also the home of the head of the Roman Catholic Church. While there will never be enough time to see all of this historic and beautiful city, there are some sites that should not be missed. One of the best ways to see Rome is simply by walking. Rome is a fascinating city and touring the wonders of ancient city can bring all of its rich history to life. See the Trevi Fountain and make a wish, and then have dinner by the Pantheon. The huge Coliseum and Palatine Hill are located within walking distance of the fountain, while short distance away visitors can wander through the ruins of the Roman Forum. Near the Forum are the Capitoline Hill Museums with a piazza designed by Michelangelo. Vatican City is always a popular tourist destination with highlights including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican’s museums. For a walk back in time, visitors can follow the ancient Via Appia Antica. Beginning at the old Roman catacombs, the Roman highway is now a national park. Italians love flower gardens and green spaces, and nowhere is this more apparent than in Roma. One of the most spectacular gardens is the botanical garden donated to the city by the Corsini family in 1883. The lush gardens contain over 3,500 different plants and flowers, including the “Scent and Touch” garden established so the seeing impaired could still appreciate the beauty of the garden. Rose lover will delight in the Roseto Garden. Open for only a few months a year, visitors can see and smell some of the most amazing collection of roses. With new rose varieties being added annually, the garden is constantly changing to delight and amaze visitors every year.
