Alongside the River Avon sits the historic city of Bristol. Filled with museums, shops and restaurants, there are also several stately homes and mansions boasting meticulously landscaped gardens. Almost every historic estate has at least one rose garden, and some beautiful ones can be found at Aston Court and Tyntesfield. Fragrant teas and large floribunda roses are planted more often the the scentless but hardier hybrids. This helps to keep the gardens are historically accurate as possible. The cool English weather is ideal for lavender and heather, along with bachelor buttons and delicate chamomile. During the spring the tulips appear and a favorite in the city are the white and peach ones. Hollyhocks with single and double blooms are favorites in private gardens, along with larkspur and foxglove. Full size and mini carnations can be found growing wild in meadows, along with carefully tended patches in public gardens. Many of the shops and restaurants in Bristol have potted mums and daisies out front to ensure residents and tourists know that they are open for business. While the rainy springs that are common in region can affect its growth, one can even find mammoth sunflowers growing in some of the fields and gardens.
