This metropolitan borough can claim several top rated universities, including one that was named “the most modern in the UK”. Along with its universities, shops, theatre and find restaurants, the city of Coventry is also home to some stunning flower gardens. Most of the universities have dedicated green spaces and gardens designed to be quiet places for students to relax and occasionally blow off some steam. In the gardens one can almost always find roses of almost any color. Teas and floribundas are popular, and many private gardens boast climbers. Some of the climbing roses have been passed down for generations, and can often be seen growing along walls and trellises. Heather and lavender add a touch of purple, and their scent fills the air in the springtime. The spring also brings out the tulips and crocuses, along with the daffodils. Almost every cottage garden has at least one tall hollyhock, along with clusters of bachelor buttons. These flowers are even still worn in buttonholes, especially during celebrations. Queen Anne’s Lace can be found growing in almost every meadow, and the spring also brings out the wild daisies and mini and full size carnations.
