Biel, also known by its’ French name Bienne, is a picture perfect waterfront town in Switzerland. The hillside is home to the beautiful old town with its traditional architecture, whilst the newer part of town is to be found closer to the lakeside. If you wish to see more organised floral arrangements, the Bern Botanical Gardens are a mere 30 minutes away by car and offer plenty for flower lovers young and old. Of course, there are plenty of alpine plants on display here, as can best be expected. But there is also an excellent collection of exotic and non-native species as well. There are over 1500 species of Alpine plants and shrubs on display. There are also greenhouses housing exotic ferns and other heat loving shrubs, and a floral themed café at which you can sit back and relax after exploring.
