Driving down the Grand Pacific Drive one will find the city of Wollongong. With mountains and beaches there is something for everyone, including a diverse collections of plants and animals. The city is home to the Nan Tien Temple where lotus blossoms, exotic orchids and sweet scented jasmine are a common sight. There are even tiny bonsai trees occasionally on display, along with a few Japanese red maple trees. At the Wollongong Botanical Garden one can find plants and flowers from around the world. Along with an extensive collection of orchids and flowering cacti, there are also several types of lilies. Lacy ferns grow alongside flowering potato vines and caladiums. Coxcomb, agave and dusty miller can be found planted together, and it is hard to miss all of the roses. Azaleas, scabiosa and yellow daisies are striking together, along with the blue salvia and lobelia. Coreopsis is another favorite and can be found in public and private gardens. For those who want to see a stunning waterfall a trip to Macquarie Pass National Park is called for. Along with the falls visitors can also see small orchids blooming underneath the trees, along with anthuriums and a wide variety of ferns.
