Not only is Hobart the capital of Tasmania it is also becoming a fashionable city to visit. The historic shops and restaurants are gaining attention, and tourism is up in the area. Along with its historic theatre, museums and galleries the city is also home to several parks and gardens. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are home to a wide variety of native and imported plants and flowers. The lily ponds and Japanese style tea garden are popular with visitors and the maple trees turn stunning colors in the fall. The planned gardens often contain marigolds, larkspur and digitalis. Pentas are another favorite and the pink, white and red flowers are stunning when mixed together. Inside one of the greenhouses visitors can also find several varieties of bromeliads blooming different shades of pink. At the Parliament House visitors can tour the carefully designed gardens that change with the seasons. Chrysanthemums bloom in the fall and tulips appear in the springtime. Roses are also popular in Hobart and can be found blooming in the city gardens and at residents’ homes. Other common flowers include begonias, amaryllis and giant white and purple agapanthus.
