Midland, Canada is a town that is often overlooked in favour of those on the traditional tourist route, however that does not mean there is nothing to see in Midland. Located in Ontario the town is a good base from which to check out the Fort-Sainte-Marie, a refurbished fort that in the 17th century was a base for the Jesuits. There is also an interesting reconstructed Indian Village called Little Lake Park which is well worth exploring if you are interested in Native American History. If you are interested in flowers and plants when in Midland then the local Wye Marsh Wildflower group may be just your cup of tea (or bunch of flowers!) Meeting every Thursday morning where they work in the gardens until midday, this keen groups of gardeners give talks, training and presentations on how to get the best out of your flowers and plants. Bring a packed lunch and settle in at 12pm for some flower related learnings! The gardens themselves are a haven for butterflies given the lovely flowers that are planted here There is a specific wildflower garden used to attract bees, as well as a herb garden with plants and herbs. You will be able to see flowers such as the false sunflower and the blazing star. If however you wish to check out wildflowers growing in their native habitat then Ontario has a long list of native species. These include alfalfa, bee balm and blazing star. These, amongst others such as the bloodroot and bur marigolds, can be seen all along the walking trails in the spring months and make for excellent photo opportunities. Whether you want to hike to get some fresh air or are a wildflower spotter, Midland is a great base from which to explore the area. Bring your camera and notebook with you - you will likely find some flowers you have never seen before!
