Takasaki Fiori Fiorista

While Takasaki is not necessarily on the tourist trail of Japan, it is still well worth visiting. There are many lovely restaurants and shops as well as religious shrines and temples. Nearby Kannonyama has the must see statue of the Byakue Canon or White Robed Canon which stands at over 40m tall. Take the 15 minute bus journey from Takasaki and then walk to the top where you will be rewarded with the most fabulous views of the city and surrounding mountains, especially during cherry blossom season. Be sure to stop on the Ishiharamachi shopping street to purchase some traditional crafts and have a meal of soba noodles in one of the restaurants. While in the region be sure to visit the Jiganin Temple and learn more about the history of the area. Not far from Takasaki is the larger city of Maebashi otherwise known as The City of greenery. Don't miss the Akagi Nanmen Senbon-akura festival held annually in springtime. Bring your camera to capture the beauty and magnificence of 1000 cherry trees in bloom. A favourite pastime of Japanese locals is to sit and watch these delicate blossoms as they fall to the ground creating a soft, pink carpet beneath their feet.
