Passionflower, Peacock ginger, Firecracker and Early gold wildflowers found in Imus, Cavite.
When Christian missionaries first stepped on South American soil, they spotted a flower that became a sign to the success of their mission. The flower of that plant was named passion flower following the passion of Christ. They associated the flower with Christ and the Apostles. Peacock ginger is a flowering plant with small flowers. These plants are small and only covers the ground, growing just up to 30 cm high. They have bigger leaves that are green a light shade of purple. Firecracker flowers grow over 3 ft tall and are natives to Sri Lanka and India. The firecracker part of this plant is the seed pods that when dried will explode when the humidity gets high or when rain is about to fall. The seeds automatically fall out at the surrounding of the plant. The Zingiber spectabilis or Early gold is also known as the beehive ginger because of its shape and because it belongs to the family of true gingers. They have medicinal properties and are used in Indonesia to treat eye inflammation.
