Beautiful Mito-shi is known for its stunningplum blossoms in the spring, and is also the capital of the area. Locals come from miles around and visitors stop by to enjoy the wonderful selection of blossoms on display. One of the most popular parks at which to view flowers when in Mito-Shi are the stunning Kairakuen Gardens. Here, beautiful plum trees dominate the landscaped gardens - a particularly wonderful place to head during the spring when the blossoms are in full bloom. During this period, usually in February or March, the Plum Blossom Festival will be in full swing, with many of the over three thousand trees lit up at night encouraging lots of people taking a romantic stroll in the park. Mito-shi is also home to the interesting Flower Robot Museum as well as several interesting shrines and museums that make the area a great place to explore over a few days.
