Lovely Kofu is a nature lover’s dream destination. With plenty of outdoor activities from which to choose, there is never time to be bored. The nearby thermal spas are a place to heal and unwind, and there are numerous castles and shrines to explore, including Kofu Castle with its wealth of history and beautiful architecture. Those who would like to see shrubs, plants and flowers in Kofu will also not be disappointed. The Kofu Valley Herb and Rose Garden is a great place to start. With hundreds of different sorts of herbs, not to mention beautiful roses and a tunnel of flowers, the “Herb Teien Tabinikki” is an oasis in the midst of a big city. Elsewhere, about 30 minutes away from Kofu-shi, lies the stunning Oboshi Park. This is the place to visit in March and April, with literally thousands of gorgeous pink cherry trees covering the mountainside. During the peak bloom times, known as the cherry blossom festival, the trees are lit up at night and locals come to take in the views and enjoy each other’s company. The Otsuki Cherry Blossom Festival is another great cherry blossom viewing spot with hundreds of trees adorning the mountain side.
