Bicton Gardens are just outside of Exeter. This is a magnificient garden. Expansive lush lawns, gorgeous fountain monuments, and a burst of colourful flowers make it obvious why these have been listed as grade 1 grounds.

Since the 1700s, Bicton Gardens have created a tranquil landscaped area with modern amenities now added for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike. The Palm House dates from the 1820s, built in a semi circle, it is constructed of eighteen thousand small panes of glass, within narrow bars designed for iron glazing.

The gardens are a joy at any time of the year. They are on the hill between the walls that head down to the more formal area of the water features. There are canals that have fountains and even a small stream, plus a great big lake! If you go over the other side of the formal garden you will find the fernery. If you have never seen a real fernery, this will be a special treat for you. There are rock gardens there. If you look up you will see a flint stone hut. In that hut there is a striking collection of sea shells. Go look!

Play a round of mini golf, wander the nature trail, explore the historic glasshouses, and take a ride around the whole park on the Bicton Woodland Railway train. Scout out the countryside museum and let the children play in both the outdoor and the indoor kids zone play complex. Stop for lunch in the restaurant, and pick up some souvenirs in the shop before you end your stay.

The expected azaleas and rhododendrons delight along with a rainbow of colourful borders and the feature flower gardens. Now you know why Bicton Park is one of the most visited flower gardens and attraction parks in the South West region of Devon.
