Japan in the spring bursts into bloom! Cherry blossoms and plum blossoms, tulips and my favourite, wisteria start blooming all over the country. Well, the wisteria doesn't bloom in the northern part of Japan, Hokkaido because it is just too cold there. Koto-ku though is full of wisteria each spring, which is why it is one of my favourite places.
There is a shrine in the old downtown area that is generally considered to be one of the best places in Japan to view wisteria. The Kameido Tenjin Shrine is lovely already, with vermilion bridges and a koi pond, but nothing is better than massive wisteria as far as I am concerned. You can really feel the history of old Japan here.
Once, at least once, come later in the day so you can see the park once they illuminate it in the evening. The lights in the wisteria make the flowers take on a mysterious and enchanting air.
