Cuenca – short for Santa Ana de los cuatro ríos de Cuenca (which is in turn English for “Saint Anna of the Four Rivers of Cuenca) – is a city in Ecuador famous for its historicity, architecture, and variety of tourist attractions. Cuenca’s city centre is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site because of all the historical buildings located therein. Some highlights in Cuenca include the Old Cathedral, which was built in 1577 but is now a museum, the New Cathedral, built in 1885, the El Cajas national park, and the Botanical Garden of Cuenca. Flowers that you can find in the national park and botanical gardens include the Flower of the Andes (or Chuquiraga jussieui), the Fuchsia campii (a form of willowherb), many variants of orchids, variants of roses, lavenders, and the black-eyed Susan on a vine.
