It is hard not to associate the city of Nottingham with the legend of Robin Hood, but there is so much more to this historic city. Ancient caves dot the area for visitors to explore, along with art galleries, museums and historic churches. Nottingham is also home to The Arboretum which contains parks and Victorian Era gardens. Large hydrangea bushes hug the park’s river bank, and cherry trees line some of the garden’s paths. Tulips of every color bloom in the springtime, and the purple and oranges are a stunning sight. The historic monuments and memorials throughout the parks and garden are frequently surrounded by large mounds of daylilies, cannas and irises. Brown eyed susans and shasta daisies are also common sights in the gardens, along with asters, dahlias and a assortment of mums. The Victorian Gardens are also home to a large collection of hybrid and tea roses. Yellow roses are a favorite and can even be found growing in private gardens. White, red and pink hybrids and teas are also popular, especially the fragrant old fashioned varieties. Residents of Nottingham are also fond of potted flowers, and it is not uncommon to see baskets of pansies, petunias and begonias placed in front of doorways.
