The historic maritime city of Genoa is a popular tourist destination not only for its beaches, museums and shops, but also for its stunning gardens. One of the most spectacular is the Villa Durazzo-Pallavicini where visitors can wander among the plants and flowers. Along with the stunning pergolas and beautifully designed foot bridges, the Villa also boasts a traditional English garden. Red and pink decorative grasses are mixed in with purple asters, along with mums and carnations. Verbena, cosmos and coreopsis can also be found in the flower beds. Other parts of the garden are filled with white and yellow shasta daisies that are blended beautifully with brown eyed susans and red salvia. Impatiens and begonias are other common sights, along with tulips in the spring. Red cannas add height to some of the gardens, along with several varieties of daylilies. Large bougainvillea vines hang over some of the bridges, and one of the garden paths lead visitors among rose covered arches. Along with climbing roses, there are also several types of hybrids and teas. Some old fashioned varieties of roses can also be found blooming in the late spring and summer filling the garden with their fragrance.
