Located in the Wupper valley and by the same named river the area around the city of Wuppertal is an ideal place for growing many of Germany’s native plants and flowers. The Wuppertal zoo and botanical gardens are some of the best places for residents and visitors to see the flowers when they are in bloom. The beautifully landscaped beds in the zoo attract almost as many visitors as the animals. Bright marigolds add a splash of color, along with the mums, daisies and carnations. Tall red canna also appear in the summertime, along with rows of gerbera in the front. The Wuppertal botanical garden is home to several species of native plants and flowers, along with a few imported varieties. Purple coneflowers bloom beside bachelor buttons, and delicate nicotiana blooms. Cosmos and coreopsis are also common sights in the summer, along with asters and poppies. Brown eyed susans are another favorite with residents, along with Shasta daisies and these flowers can also be found growing in private gardens. There are also several large rhododendron bushes throughout the city, and they make a striking sight when they are burst into bloom. Roses lovers will also delight in the teas and hybrids, along with the few climbers that grace garden walls.
