Karagandy’s name actually comes from the flowering plants that are found all over the city, called caragana. Caragana are small shrubs that are between 1 and 6 meters long, and they bear flower clusters. The clusters are usually yellow, but some caragana shrubs have been seen with white and pink flowers. Karagandy itself, the second largest city in Kazakhstan, is known for its history of coal mining and industry, with a monument dedicated to coal miners in the past erected near the city center. At one point, Karagandy was considered for the capital city of Kazakhstan, but the title ultimately went to Astana. Other than caragana, one can find flowers like irises, daylily, daisies, roses, and a variety of others.
