Monrovia is the capital city of Liberia, and one of the most important cities in the entire nation: its harbor makes it crucial to Liberia’s economy, and Liberia’s government offices are located in its city center. It was also the first settlement in Africa created for emancipated African slaves from the United States. Recently, Liberia experienced an outbreak of Ebola, but is now completely Ebola-free. The dryer atmosphere and poor soil of Monrovia means that there aren’t too many flowers and mostly trees such as palm trees, rubber trees, and cacao trees, but one flower common throughout most of Liberia is the flower of the piper nigrum, or black pepper plant.
