Madrid is not only the capital of Spain, it is also a fabulous tourist destination. This urban metropolis is home to several museums including the world renowned Prado Museum which contains over 9,000 paintings, sculptures and other works of art. The Ateno de Madrid is the second oldest library in Spain and opened its doors in 1835. Not only is the library a peaceful spot to catch up on the local history and customs, its intricately carved reading desks and wooden pillars are also considered works of art. The Royal palace is another popular attraction in the Spanish city while the Mercado San Miguel is one of the best places to shop. The Plaza Mayor may be located in the heart of the city, but the Puerta Del Sol is the heart of the city. The Sun Gate is also surrounded by shops and cafes, perfect for resting and people watching. Right outside of Madrid is the Monastery of San Lorenzo and it is known for its beautiful gardens and its boxed hedge maze. Another popular garden among the residents of the city is located next to the Prado Museum. The Royal Botanical Garden contains over 30,000 plants, flowers and trees and was first opened in 1781. Some of the gardens more popular features include the scented roses in the Classical Romantic Garden which also features a quaint duck pond. Some of the exotic plants visitors can also expect to see include several varieties of lilies and orchids along with large weeping willow trees and large areas of azaleas. The gardens are open year round to the public and also contain a gift shop where some of the plants can be bought as seedlings or sprouts. If you aren't ready to carry a floral arrangement from the gift shop, we will happily deliver the bouquet of your choosing from our catalog to most addresses in Madrid.
