As another coastal city located in Greece, Patra is not so much known for economic importance (like, for example, Piraeus), but for its large population of students (and the subsequently high volume of scientific projects as a result), its highly active cultural arts scene (focusing on literature and the performing arts), and the extravagant yearly Patra Carnival, which is visited by hundreds of thousands of people from around the world every year.
