On the southern tip of Hokkaido lies the city of Hakodate, a beautiful city with plenty of things to do for both visitors and locals alike. Pretty colonial era buildings abound, and several interesting catholic and orthodox churches are dotted around the city just waiting to be explored. A trip to the former British Consulate of Hakodate will delight with its splendid rose garden, and a hike up Mount Esan will reward with vibrant bursts of fabulous azalea. Don’t forget also Hakodate Park, a wonderful place for a stroll amongst the cherry trees in the spring and a great place to bring the entire family.
