The most magnificent sight in Fukushimi has to be the Hanamiyama park in the springtime with its colourful display of blossoms adorning the cherry trees. Visit the Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Modern Art to view a mind boggling display of over 3800 paintings including work by local artist Shoji Sekine. Another exhibit not to be missed in the heart of the city is the Inari shrine. It’s worth making a point of visiting in October as there is a 3 day festival with floats filled with lanterns which make their way to the shrine through the city. Notice the charms around the shrine which are placed there in the hope of good luck at the races or a bountiful peach harvest.
