No one is really sure how the capital of Bangladesh got its name, but the hidden city of Dhaka is fully of mystery and wonder. The country has a brief and bloody history, beginning with its separation from India and English colonial rule and ending with the country’s separation from Pakistan. The Liberation War Museum is located in central Dhaka, and stands as a living reminder to the small nation’s turbulent beginnings. Located in Dhaka, visitors can also see the bright yellow blooms of the trumpet vines, and even a large rose garden. Residents of the city also love to start their own rooftop and courtyard gardens, giving visitors a glimpse of some of the tiny nation’s diverse plant life. The shrub like Allamanda is popular in many Bengali gardens, along with bright red tulips in the springtime.
