The small village of Emmen may not be on many big tourist maps or stick out as a major tourist destination, however that does not mean the area should be overlooked. The tranquil nature of the town and surrounding landscape makes for a peaceful stay, and if you fancy more attractions the Lucerne is only 10 minutes away. Lucerne is a splendid place to spend a few hours. The medieval town is a stunning collection of gothic architecture. The summer months are particularly vibrant here with a number of festivals and events planned in the open air. Surrounded by mountains, the city is a picture -postcard spectacle and well worth exploring. For flower lovers the city and area around Lucerne and Emmen is a joy. The old wooden bridge in Lucerne is a gorgeous sight, with red and purple flowers on display in the early autumn. Emmen is also not far from Zurich, under 40 minutes drive in fact. The local and well known Old Botanical Garden opened in the 1800s and has a hot palm house with a number of tropical species, as well as local plants and flowers. The walkways in the Old Botanical Garden are also known for their selection of splendid trees that give the place a wonderful refreshing vibe as well as some cooling shade in the warmer weather. Depending on the time of year you visit you will see azaleas, cherry trees and a selection of other native species of plants. It is definitely worth a stroll if you are a plant lover and are in Zurich
