The River Pader is said to spring from the burial site of a saint by the name of Liborius, making the city of Paderborn, where the cathedral where Liborius is buried can be found, an almost mystical place. One can see when they visit this town that the atmosphere is distinctly religious, but rather than being oppressively so the inhabitants of the town seem to be more spiritual than anything else which helps to make this an excellent place to come and find yourself.
The town’s aura of hardy resilience can also be seen in the flora and fauna that are native to the region. A good example of this is the stemless carline thistle, or Carlina acaulis as it is referred to in scientific circles, a flower that thrives in harsh conditions. In spite of its harder nature, it is a lot more beautiful than you would expect it to be, with its rather sparse petals being almost pure white. These petals are not delicate at all though, quite on the contrary they are quite pointy and uncomfortable to touch.
Of course, the main attraction of this town will always be the cathedral. Entering it can make you feel closer to God no matter what your religious affiliations are, which is probably why so many people love to visit this town and enjoy the serene atmosphere that it has to offer. This town can be a great getaway for the whole family.
