Compton Acres is one of the finest ornamental flower gardens in all of England. It is currently acknowledged as one of the most important privately owned gardens, having been constructed in 1920. Mr Thomas Simpson constructed these horticulturally significant grounds on over 10 acres in Poole, Dorset.

Now you can relax in the charming Tea Rooms and Cafe, stroll about the grounds, or check out the incredible Plant Centre. There are more than 3,000 different types of flowers, shrubs, trees and herbs.

They’ve laid the grounds out in a circle with the 5 different gardens at different points on the trail. They describe it as “like jewels in a necklace”. That way you can walk around and not miss a thing.

The Wooded Valley has foxgloves and bluebells, camelias and rhododendrons. With lots of trees and shrubs the mature Scot’s pines protect it all. The play area for the children at the far end is styled to fit in with the theme of nature and all its splendour.

The Heather Garden is cleared and replanted using thousands of plants added anew every year. The peak of colour is reached in both winter and the late summer. In spring you can see the spectacular flower of the Acacia Pravissima and the Sophora Sun King.

The Italian Garden is styled with all the classical elements like grand bronze statues and lanterns, an ornamental pool and impressive topiaries. A sought after wedding venue, the Italian Villa is surrounded by the sounds of water and Dwarf Fan palm trees.

The Rock and Water Gardens are based on an Arts and Crafts landscape style from the 1920s. There are over 2,000 dwarf spring bulbs in this area of the park. The rock work is exquisite in the water gardens creating enticing views from the tops and bottoms of the bridges.

The Japanese Garden uses traditional Japanese elements of cherry trees, azaleas and wisteria, plus a koi pond and a wooden Tea House.
