Ṭalkha is located on the west bank of a distributary of the Nile River, called the Damietta, in the Nile Delta region.
In all of Egypt gardens are shown great love. Egyptians, since ancient times, have tended their flowers with care, providing shade and water where nature may not be so kind. Flowers are an essential part of daily life in Egypt.
The buildings have columns with architectural shapes of flowers. Tiles, on walls and floors create floral images much larger than life. Painted images of flowers embellish homes and businesses, painted directly on the walls, or on mounted canvases.
Fresh flowers adorn inside most every home. Festivals and feasts create a natural excuse to cover the grounds, the home or the town with flowers. With every course served of a meal, new flowers arrive on the table, too.
Even the people are covered in flowers. Garlands are worn around the neck or on your head. Guests are given nosegays or individual flowers when they arrive.
The ancient pharaohs imported plants and flowers to provide more joy in their reigns. The flowers certainly have brought much joy to the people of Egypt, and specifically to Ṭalkha.
