You will be absolutely spoiled for things to do here in Kyoto, and for those who love flowers and plants there is also a splendid itinerary awaiting you! You will find gardens and hidden paradises at every turn. Kyoto features some amazing cherry blossom viewing spots that are at their finest in the early spring and attract both locals and visitors alike. Maruyama Park is a particular favorite and has some seven hundred magnificent cherry trees which, alongside some pleasant flowers, makes for amazing viewing in the spring. In March and April the park is also lit up in the evenings for all to enjoy. The area around the beautiful Toji Temple is another great spot to catch the beautiful blossoms in full bloom, with a century old tree its pride and joy. There are about two hundred other trees here so there are plenty of viewing opportunities around the temple gardens and lots of lovely spots to sit and enjoy the flowers on display in the spring. And one unlikely spot to see some spectacular flowers? The local sewage plant! The Toba Treatment Plant is absolutely covered in beautiful wisteria and opens its doors to the public in April and May on nominated days so they can see the beautiful purple flowers. Kyoto will keep you busy for days! For example, there are over one thousand temples to visit alone, so you could spend weeks just checking out this traditional type of monument. The Kyoto National Museum is perhaps however the best place to start off to get a general overview of this fantastic city and will help you get your bearings. The National Museum of Modern Art is another excellent choice and well worth a visit if you love artworks, or you may wish to check out some of the Geisha shows on in the city.
