Solingen is a city in Germany you wouldn’t want to miss seeing if you are on a tour to Hitler’s country. This city was called Klingenstadt (City of Blades) back in Middle ages and this place is famous for swords, cutlery and scissors.
The rich culture of this city is still reflected in whatever stands on this small land. The water-powered grinding mills and the grand museum in the city of Solingen tell about the local culture more than anything else. The Counts and Dukes of Berg ruled over the city sitting at a lordly castle, called Schloss Burg.
There is plenty of greenery in the city to provide you with fresh breathing air. The botanical garden of Solingen which preserves a wide range of flowers and plants, protecting the region’s floral life. The park is open all day without any charges so you can visit anytime. The garden spreads over an area of 6 hectares with at least 19 different segregated gardens in it.
The plants and flowers kept in the garden include but are not limited to Alyssum, Arabis, Delphinium, Gentiana, Geranium, Primula, fig, olive, palm trees, sugar cane, coca, carnivorous plants, daffodils, lily of the valley, barley, wheat, pomegranate, aster, grapes, ivy, daisy, peony, peppermint, rosemary, and banana trees.
A few of the most visited gardens are Mediterranean garden, Alpinum, Cottage garden, Biblical garden, Rose garden, Herb garden, heather garden, pond area, and iris garden. There is a miniature lake in the garden with fishes and turtles in it.
The garden is now administered by a non profit organization. The volunteers and professional staff at the garden try their level best to preserve the region’s floral life.
