The city-resort Nalchik is located on the bank of the river of the same name. It was founded in 1724, now it is the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian republic. The city is located in the foothills of the Main Caucasian Range. The population of Nalchik is 239 people, but it is gradually decreasing due to various socio-economic factors. Despite the fact that the city has the status of a resort, few are eager to rest there because of constant sluggish ethnic conflicts, where all the people residing on the territory of the country hate each other and of course the Russians, considering them invaders and enemies. Although Russians in Nalchik are very few.
The climate of the city is typical for the foothills zone. A non-hot summer gives way to a relatively warm winter. Such a climate is favorable for the flora, and near the city, as in Nalchik itself -you can meet a large number of representatives of the flora of Kabardino-Balkaria. Ecology plays in favor of it.
Industry in the city is very few, the only major polluter of the environment is JSC "Hydrometallurg", and they want to close it. Motor transport, of course, affects the state of air in the city, but the concentration of harmful substances does not go beyond the norm.
In the mountain forests near Nalchik, hazel, dogwood, thorn, loquat and cherry plum grow. On the slopes of the mountains, you can find evergreen shrubs: wolf head and rhododendron caucasian. Flowers are widespread - a variety of bells, beautiful alpine asters, alpine anemones, carnations. A bractechnic lighthouse with its twenty-centimetric flowers does not occur anywhere else, like the Kabardian snowdrop, Bortkevich's snowdrop, Nogmov's cornflower and the Khabazi cornflower.
In Nalchik, there is a beautiful and well-kept nature park. On park’s territory there is a source of mineral water. In the park, crocuses grow, several species of violets, primroses, anemones and bathing suits. The city's flowerbeds are numerous and varied. Omnipresent Petunia ampel, stamping roses, violas, tulips, fuchsias, and geraniums are just a part of the whole variety of decorative flowers of Nalchik. The decoration of the spa park, like the whole city, is a floral calendar that can be seen on the Lime Alley. Every morning, the current date is laid out of the real flowers. Many residents of the city and visitors specially come here to make an original and memorable photo near the flower calendar.
