A little known place in the United Arab Emirates, Umm al Qaywayn is pretty sparse in terms of attractions. But if you like the natural environment this is a great place to explore - the area is home to lots of green turtles as well as a more tropical vibe with waterways and mangroves. If you are looking for more things to do you will have to head north to Ras Al Kahaimah, a well known tourist destination and home to plenty of things to do. This is a great place for watersports - try your hand at jet skiing, scuba diving or snorkeling, or even windsurfing and paragliding. You are about an hour from Dubai and even less time to Sharjah from here, and all of the attractions on offer. For flower lovers an absolute must see is the Dubai Miracle Garden which attracts thousands of people to view the displays year on year. Open in the winter season the garden is an absolute feast for the senses and should not be overlooked if you love flowers. There are more than one hundred and fifty MILLION flowers in the gardens and you cannot take your eyes off them. There are archways, walkways, houses, sculptures and even a massive plan completely covered in beautiful floral blooms. The gardens are also home to the Butterfly Garden which has a unique set of plants and flowers that are specifically laid out to attraction butterflies of many different varieties and types! What a great place to take the kids if you are holidaying in the area. Make sure your camera is close at hand when you visit - the colors simply cannot be described! The Dubai Miracle Garden is only open from November to May so try and plan your trip around that time!
